U.S. Senate Passes Water Infrastructure Legislation
The U.S. Senate passed the water infrastructure legislation that passed the House on September 13th.
The legislation includes the announced authorization of a new, second lock at the Soo Locks.
According to officials, that lock will be able to handle large Great Lakes freighters.
The legislation authorizes around $922 million for the Army Corps to construct of the lock.
Some other items the bill focuses on are transparency about drinking water quality and aid to water systems belonging to states and municipalities.
The bill now heads to the president’s desk.
