Traffic Stop Leads to Search for Man Wanted on Several Felony Warrants in Wexford County
The MSP says it was good luck that troopers were at the Cadillac Post doing training on Monday.
That’s because they were called to a search for a wanted suspect in Wexford County.
Around 11 o’clock Monday morning police stopped a vehicle on M-115 in Cherry Grove Township for a registration violation.
They approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver and a passenger.
The passenger was found to be wanted on two felony warrants out of Missaukee County and was asked to get out of the vehicle.
He complied, but that’s when he took off on foot into a wooded swampy area.
Police gave chase, and requested support from additional officers.
The MSP says seven or eight troopers responded along with K9 officers and 3 DNR officers.
At one point the suspect ran through the parking lot of a Cadillac television station.
The suspect circled back near the station, and that’s where first lieutenant Frank Keck happened to be.
He was then taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was lodged in the Wexford County Jail on charges of fleeing from police.
His name is being withheld pending arraignment on these new charges.
