UPDATED: Power Outage Affects Cadillac Area
A fire on a power pole led to a blown transformer that left nearly 1,600 Consumers Energy customers in Wexford, Missaukee and Osceola counties without power for the afternoon and early evening hours on Sunday.
Power began flickering around 4pm before going out completely a few minutes later. Consumers Energy says this blown transformer was to blame for the outage. Power was restored shortly after 6pm to most customers, while the electric company had a crew on scene for several hours while they worked to restore power to the remaining customers affected by the problem.
Power to all customers was restored by late evening on Sunday. The cause of the pole fire that led to the blown transformer was not immediately apparent.
