Police Investigating Scam Where Traverse City Tourism Receives Bill for Dozens of iPhones
Police are investigating after a Traverse City group found themselves being charged for dozens of phones they never bought.
It happened earlier this week to the Traverse City Visitor Center.
Staff at the Center told us that they were surprised when they got a bill in the mail from AT&T, saying they owed over $5,000.
This was for the purchase of 50 iPhones.
Staff contacted the TCPD Monday afternoon.
Police began investigating and say that it appears someone opened an AT&T account under the visitor center’s name.
They then ordered the phones, and the actual visitor center’s got the bill.
AT&T has forgiven the bill for the center, since it was not from them.
Officers are still investigating this scam.
