Person Of The Week: Desiree Herrst
This week’s Person of the Week volunteers around the small community of Central Lake, but makes a big impact in the lives of those she serves.
Desiree Herrst mentors girls with disabilities, volunteers at the Grand Traverse Children’s Museum, and makes cat beds for her local animal shelter.
She is also a member of a robotics team that recently built a car for a young boy with spina bifida.
However, a bulk of her volunteer time is spent making yarn wigs for children with cancer.
She has made over 30 wigs with a goal to make at least 100 more.
Recently, Desiree was also given the honor of the Volutneer of the Year award from the Governor.
So, for her dedication to the community, Desiree Herrst is this week’s person of the week.
If you know of someone who’s working hard in their own community, creating something new in the area, or just affecting northern Michigan in their own special way and you’d like to nominate them — send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tell us who you’d like to nominate for the person of the week, why you think they should receive that title, and how we can reach them — Each week, we’ll broadcast one of these nominees as the “Person of the Week.”
