Officials: Traverse City’s Clean Energy Initiative Will Create Investment, Jobs
Officials in Traverse City say their renewable energy initiative will create jobs and boost local investment.
In August, the board of Traverse City Light & Power voted to make it a goal to achieve 100 percent clean energy by 2040 with an interim goal of 40 percent by 2025.
A roundtable discussion was held Monday on the economic benefits of the clean energy sector.
Officials say Traverse City has a vibrant clean energy sector, with companies in solar manufacturing, installation, and wind energy development.
They contend that there is also a growing demand among local businesses and residents to install solar panels.
According to Traverse City Mayor Pro-tem Amy Shamroe, companies are investing in clean, renewable energy to power their operations, generating both business and jobs.
