Native American Human Remains and Artifacts Found in Oscoda
Human remains as well as associated artifacts were discovered in Oscoda earlier this year while reconstruction was taking place of US-23. Those artifacts and remains have been found to be identified as being those of American Indians. The Michigan State University Forensic Anthropology Lab confirmed the information. MDOT is actively consulting with the American Indian tribes that have an interest in the disposition of the remains– following provisions of the Native American Graves Protection Act.
