Motion Filed to Reinstate Sex Crime Charges Against Former CMU Student President
The state Attorney General’s office has filed a motion to reinstate charges against the former head of CMU’s student government.
24 year-old Ian Elliott of Cheboygan was originally charged with two counts of sexual misconduct in the third degree and assault with attempt to penetrate.
The charges stemmed from an alleged assault that happened in September of 2016 at a Mt. Pleasant apartment, near Central Michigan University.
At the time, Elliot was president of the Student Government Association at CMU.
Officials say the victim underwent a sexual assault examination and told police.
Elliott’s original case was sent to the circuit court and a trial had been scheduled, but the charges were dismissed in April.
A hearing date for the motion to set aside the dismissal is scheduled for November 16th.
