Midland Police Officer on Paid Leave While Shooting is Investigated
An officer is on paid leave following a shooting in Midland.
At approximately 1:30 this morning Midland Police Officers were called to a breaking and entering on East Ashman Road.
Two suspects were said to breaking into vehicles in that area and when officers arrived they took off on foot.
During that foot chase one of the suspects is said to have pulled out a gun and fired at officers.
The officer returned fire, hitting the suspect, a 16-year-old from the Midland area.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other suspect, another 16-year-old from the Midland area was found and taken into custody.
None of the officers were injured.
As per standard procedure the officer who shot the suspect has been placed on paid leave while the incident is investigated.
And that investigation has been handed over to the MSP.
The MSP says the firearm used by the suspect had been stolen from a vehicle in Midland on Sunday.
The Midland police say there has been several reports of items stolen from vehicles throughout the city, but it is unknown if the suspects from this case were responsible for those other thefts.
