Michigan State Police Warn Against New Phone Subscription Scam
The Michigan State Police are warning against a new scam that now has at least two victims.
In the scam, the suspect contacts the victim saying they have a subscription to something that will automatically be renewed for a few hundred dollars.
When the victim states they have no subscription, the caller say they will walk the victim through canceling their subscription, and then send a link to the victim. Once the victim clicks the link, the scammer now has access to their computer.
One victim stated they were told they were supposed to receive $600 and were accidentally refunded $6,000. The suspect then requested gift card to refund them the difference.
Another victim stated they sent the suspect $4,000 in gift cards.
