Manistee Excavation Project Halted After Workers Find Human Skull
Excavation efforts at a site in Manistee County came to a screeching halt after the discovery of a human skull.
According to Consumers Energy, last Monday, a human skull was found at the site of a former manufactured gas plant facility in Manistee.
Contractors working for Consumers Energy came across the skull while doing excavation work on the property.
They immediately contacted the Manistee Police, who immediately began an investigation.
But now, the investigation has now been turned over to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Consumers Energy has a joint permit with the Army Corps and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for the work near the Manistee River.
At this time, excavation work has been halted at the site pending the outcome of the investigation.
