Mackinac Bridge Authority Hosts Bridge Walk Planning Meeting
The Mackinac Bridge Authority is continuing to discuss changes for this year’s bridge walk.
The MBA will meet this Friday in St Ignace to discuss logistics for the upcoming walk, including whether the walk will require busing.
In November the board requested proposals from Mackinaw City, St Ignace, and Mackinac Island for planning and financial support for busing, if busing is to be part of this year’s event.
Also in November the board voted to keep the walk on Labor Day, but postponed any other decisions.
Several options for the 2018 walk are being considered, including moving the starting city, or even having walkers beginning at each end, crossing over at the midpoint, and walking back to their starting city.
One thing that won’t change for this and future walks is that the bridge will be closed to public traffic during the event.
This is the recommendation of the MSP and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The meeting starts at 8am Friday morning at the Little Bear East Arena in St Ignace. It will also be streamed online.
