Kaleva Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty
A Kaleva man was arrested for animal cruelty.
On January 5th the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office got a complaint that there were animals being neglected at a Maple Grove Township home.
Deputies went to the home and say they found numerous animals, including a cow, ponies, and poultry that didn’t have food, water, or bedding.
They also found multiple dead animals on the ground around the home.
After their investigation deputies said most of the animals would be impounded.
This was because of the improper sheltering and lack of food and water along with the failure to provide veterinarian care and improper burials.
A report was sent to the county prosecutor and a warrant on charges of animal cruelty of 10 or more animals, a 4-year felony, was issued.
On Thursday, the man, a 62-year-old from Kaleva was taken into custody and lodged in the Manistee County Jail.
