Fire Destroys Home in Wexford County, Crews Find Unidentified Body
A fire has destroyed a home and killed at least one person in Wexford County.
At around 7 o’clock Thursday night, four fire departments responded to the 4400 block of N 15 1/2 Rd. near Mesick.
According to the Springville Township Fire Chief, once firefighters arrived on scene, the two story home was fully engulfed in flames.’
The second story of the home was reportedly leveled by that time as well.
Crews began working to put out the flames, which took at least two hours to do.
At the time, a female resident of the home was unaccounted for and crews began searching for her once the fire was out.
But now, the Michigan State Police has confirmed that a body was located in the home.
Investigators could not tell the sex of the person due to the intensity of the fire, but will conduct an autopsy to determine their identity.
The cause of the fire is also unknown and the MSP is leading the investigation.
