EGLE Awards Grant to Redevelop Site of Former Cheboygan Gas Station
A contaminated former gas station in Cheboygan will be redeveloped thanks to a grant from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
The $249,000 brownfield redevelopment grant will allow an adjacent car dealership build on the Mackinaw Avenue site.
According to EGLE, soil and groundwater at the location were contaminated by gasoline from a leaking underground storage tank.
The grant will be used to evaluate current soil and groundwater conditions on the property and remove contaminated soil.
It will also pay for lead and asbestos abatement, and demolition of three dilapidated buildings.
And, once complete, Bishop GMC Cadillac plans to build a 1,500-square-foot sales office.
