Coast Guard Instituting Safety Area on G.T. Bay for Ironman Triathlon
The Coast Guard is setting up a temporary safety area this weekend for the first Ironman 70.3 Triathalon on West Grand Traverse Bay.
The Triathalon does have a swimming portion on the bay.
And, according to the Coast Guard, this is being done to protect the safety of participants.
From 6:15 AM to 9:45 AM Sunday, boats are prohibited to enter, anchor, or transit through the area.
Exceptions can be made while the zone is in effect, but boaters must contact the captain of the port in Sault Ste. Marie or his on-site representative.
They can be contacted on VHF channel 16.
