Chippewa County Sheriff Still Recovering From Crash in Hospital
The Chippewa County sheriff remains in the hospital following a crash last weekend.
Investigators say last Saturday evening, a Minnesota man was driving east on M-28 when he crossed the centerline to turn into a parking lot.
Troopers say the man did not see sheriff Michael Bitnar’s vehicle and the two ultimately collided.
Bitnar’s vehicle then veered off the road and hit the shoulder, causing it to roll several times.
Bitnar received internal injuries in the crash and was hospitalized, later being released.
The sheriff, however, was rushed back last Wednesday night with severe abdominal pain.
He was then admitted to the ICU, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The sheriff’s office says Bitner’s recovery will be long and painful, but he is making progress.
They’re asking you to keep him in your payers and say he hopes to return to work soon.
