Cheboygan Man Arrested for Murdering Wife Over 40 Years Ago
A Cheboygan man was taken into custody for the murder of his wife that went missing more than 40 years ago.
Thursday, Richard Gale Pierce was arrested by the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office at his home in the city.
According to the Wisconsin Attorney General’s Office, Pierce has been charged with murdering his wife, Carol Jean.
Carol Jean went missing in from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin in 1975 and her disappearance was considered a cold case until recently.
Authorities say Pierce had motive and opportunity to kill his wife, and benefitted from her death in numerous ways.
Pierce reportedly claimed that he last saw Carol Jean on the morning of September 5th, 1975, but when he came home later that night, she was gone.
He is currently being held at the Cheboygan County Jail, awaiting extradition to Door County, Wisconsin.
