Caregiver Charged with Embezzling from Vulnerable Adult
A caregiver hired to help care for senior citizen in Cheboygan County has been accused of embezzling from the 91-year-old.
The embezzlement is said to have happened in Cheboygan County’s Inverness Township.
The sheriff’s office says they got a complaint back in February that someone fraudulently used the victim’s credit cards.
The suspect was the caregiver that had been hired to help around the victim’s house on a part-time basis.
The victim’s son said he stopped getting credit card bills from his mother and he became concerned.
He started looking into and that’s when he found suspicious activity on the cards going back to December of last year.
He filed the complaint and the sheriff’s office began investigating.
That investigation found that the caregiver, 42-year-old Christina Long of Cheboygan, had used the victim’s credit cards over thirty times.
Several hundred dollars worth of cash is also said to be unaccounted for.
According to the sheriff’s office, the victim would write a check to pay a bill, the check would get cashed, but the bill remained unpaid.
Long was arrested on several charges, including embezzling from a vulnerable adult.
She has posted bond and will be back in court on June 25th.
