Air Force Says It will Cooperate With State on PFAS Cleanup
The Air Force says it will cooperate in PFAS cleanup efforts around the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Iosco County.
In a letter to Senator Gary Peters, the Air Force Secretary assured that the branch will continue to work with Michigan.
The secretary also wrote that assistant Air Force secretary is scheduling a trip to Michigan, at Peters’ request.
According to the senator, families and veterans living around Wurtsmith are facing health risks from PFAS contamination.
Peters says he is encouraged by the assurance, but he believes the branch will still need a congressional directive to set clean-up standards.
He says that he is working on drafting that legislation.
