World Headlines — 5/4/12

One of the world’s most recognizable images, Edvard Munch’s masterpiece “The Scream” was sold for a record $119.9 million at an art auction in New York City.  The 1895 painting that was soldis one of four known versions of the iconic composition but the only version still in private hands, as the other versions are owned by Norwegian museums.  It is unknown who bought the piece of art, but we do know it was a phone bidder.

A pipe bomb was found on the grounds of a church in the Northern Ireland capital of Belfast. Army Technical Officers were called to the Presbyterian church after someone cutting grass discovered a suspicious device, prompting the evacuation of nearby residents. It turned out to be viable device. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the device, or if the church may have been the target.
